چکیده

We present a method for exploring θ -dependence in two-dimensional U(1) gauge theories which is based on the calculation of fractionally charged Wilson loops in the θ = 0 theory. Including a Wilson loop with charge q = θ/2π in the path integral of a U(1) gauge theory in two spacetime dimensions is equivalent to including a θ -term in the two-volume enclosed by the loop. We study the θ -dependence of the free energy density ε(θ) for the CP1, CP5 and CP9 sigma models by extracting ε(θ) from the area law of a fractionally charged Wilson loop. For CP1, ε(θ) is smooth in the region θ ≈ π and well-described by a dilute instanton gas approximation throughout the range 0 < θ < 2π . For CP5 and CP9 the energy density exhibits a clear cusp and evidence for discrete degenerate vacua at θ = π , as expected from large N arguments. For CP9 the θ dependence is in good quantitative agreement with the leading order large N prediction ε(θ) = 1 2 χtθ 2 throughout the range 0 < θ < π .

CPN−1 Models at a Lifshitz Point

We consider CPN−1 models in d+1 dimensions around Lifshitz fixed points with dynamical critical exponent z, in the large-N expansion. It is shown that these models are asymptocially free and dynamically generate a mass for the CPN−1 fields for all d = z. We demonstrate that, for z = d = 2, the initially nondynamical gauge field acquires kinetic terms in a way similar to usual CPN−1 models in 1 ...

D-branes and coherent topological charge structure in QCD

Monte Carlo studies of pure glue SU(3) gauge theory using the overlap-based topological charge operator have revealed a laminar structure in the QCD vacuum consisting of extended, thin, coherent, locally 3-dimensional sheets of topological charge embedded in 4D space, with opposite sign sheets interleaved. Studies of localization properties of Dirac eigenmodes have also shown evidence for the d...

کاربرد مدل رقومی ارتفاع به منظور محاسبه ی عامل توپوگرافی در مدل USLE با استفاده از تکنیک زمین آمار در منطقه رشکان ارومیه

Topographic factor is an important factor of computer models of USLE family due to the high sensitivity of model results to its variation and complicated effects of topography on soil erosion. Moore and Wilson (1992) have introduced a well-known method to compute LS factor of RUSLE model using digital elevation model (DEM).The objective of this study was to determine the proper cell size of DEM...

The structural equations of surfaces associated with CPN−1 sigma models on a Minkowski space

The objective of this paper is to construct and investigate smooth orientable surfaces in RN −1 by analytical methods. The structural equations of surfaces in connection with CPN−1 sigma models on Minkowski spacetime are studied in detail. This is carried out using a moving frame adapted to the surface immersed in su(N) algebra. The first and second fundamental forms of the surface as well as t...

Resurgence and Dynamics of O(N) and Grassmannian Sigma Models

We study the non-perturbative dynamics of the two dimensional O(N) and Grassmannian sigma models by using compactification with twisted boundary conditions on R×S1, semi-classical techniques and resurgence. While the O(N) model has no instantons for N > 3, it has (non-instanton) saddles on R2, which we call 2d-saddles. On R×S1, the resurgent relation between perturbation theory and non-perturba...
